Random thoughts about the iPad

It used to be that necessity was the mother of invention but we've moved light years beyond that. Now we primarily invent for the sake of inventing and for profit - then we're sold on the supposed use for the technology by the corporations making the profit. However, having said that, I believe that technology has potential for good or evil and that there are some inventors who are still looking at the need for new technology - particularly in the medical field. But bottom line here - I don't need an iPad.

There's a good article about this on Care2 Does Anyone Really Need an iPad?

  1. I believe there are uses for an "ipad like" device, even in the medical community. I could see it as a convenient way for physicians and nurses to keep patient information at hand. I can see pharmacists using it to accurate dispense drugs for a patient at the patient's bedside. There is a myriad of good uses for this device, or others like it. But it is a long way from "useful." Many of the devices that are coming in the near future would be more fitted for a working machine.

For artists, photographers, and writers, it will be a very useful machine. Wireless technology and an "iPad" like device can make taking photos much better and easier. Most modern cameras can use wireless storage devices that can be downloaded to the computer and displayed. The iPad, or a device like it, would be great for viewing near full size images.

I don't disagree with you. I, too, don't "need" and iPad. But I would consider an HP Slate, simply because of the USB and graphics capability (http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/04/hp-slate-details-leaked-550-keyboard-less-netbook/).

  2. Yes, I worry about invention for the sake of it, especially as my Grandson is drawn into wanting something he doesn't need and can't afford, just to keep up with the others in his group! Grrr..
